Need help teaching my grandkids about honesty ?
I have been watching several posts about dishonest sellers and ebay's policy posting violations, some of which vanish. My grandkids watch and have access to my computer and now I see they are watching the D boards also. They have broght to my attention that from the point of view of a highschool kid that they question the honesty of not only dishonest sellers but that of ebays posting policies. For example ; the complaints that ebay does not seem to do much of anything about dishonest sellers ( the sales tax issue being charged contrary to ebay's policy ) . The other example is that of what people see as the truth which ebay seems to be at oods with. Since they don't work they don't understand that its all about the money. How do I explain to them the selfish motives of large companies at the expense of the little guy ?|||Honesty? Maybe you should explain what a sock puppet is first. You were already told what to do about the sales tax problem. Ebay has nothing to do with it, you need to report it to the state.|||highlow, Casual sellers are not always required to charge sales tax. However, some small sellers do have business accounts, and do have a tax calculator, and auto tax is included in the check out. Link Those sellers may not know the procedure, but is it honest of you to cost a seller money over sales tax? In most States items bought on line within that State, have to charge/pay sales tax on the sale..~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I did not sell you my opinion|||How do I explain to them the selfish motives of large companies at the expense of the little guy ? SAY WHAT!!! That's one heck of an assumption. Large companies don't always shaft the little guy or have selfish motives. I question your motives. You must be a liberal who is trying to warp the mind of her grandkid! I'm a grandmother too so from one to another if you don't know how to teach honest at your age then you've got even bigger issues to deal with than trying to teach your grandkids ANYTHING!|||You teach children the golden rule "do to others what you would like to be done to you" and silver rule "do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you" And to not base their decisions on the actions of others. It is also good to teach them that there are many sides to every story and to try to see more than their own.It may not be your fault but it is your responsibility Silver rule "do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you"|||Don't have to look far to see who wears the pants in the US...it's not the government, it's big business and no one has the balls to stand up to them...have your grandchildren look at the state of the current economy there and they will get a clear picture of what big business is all about....Just a view from the outside looking in...|||Ebay has everything to do with it if it's against ebay policy, which T and S verified as well as the state attorney general and the department of revenue. Ebay is makeing the money off of the listing fees so they are complicit. There are more people than just my buying group that thinks ebay is making money off the back of the little guy both seller and buyer.( See the T and S board ) Does any one really think any large corp cares about its customers unless there is a potential for loss due to poor customer service. I retired for a huge international corp whose sole motive was to make money off the backs of its employees and customers and when they realized they were wrong was when their stock lost most of its value then they started to pay attention to the customer and actually listened to its employees . Why do you think Ebay changed the feedback rules ? Ebay pays attention to the little guy when they think they will lose money. Its not about customer service its about the money at ebay , just check the other borads. One poster was correct, the large crops rule the world . It has been observed that power sellers , in several cases had 500-600 negs or neuts. in a month but, are still selling ; how does that help the little guy? I bet the grandkids see the hypocrisy at ebay.|||I would not judge or teach my grand kids about anything based on what is said on these boards. Other than you should not believe everything you read.|||First lets be honest here.. Most people work for these big bad companies & they put food on the table of the so called little guy. If they don't make money they can't pay anyone. Ebay has thousands of people working for them that must be paid. They also have thousands of average joe stock holders that expect a return on their investment.. If you don't like what Ebay charges you to use their venue that cost them big dollars to maintain then you're free to go else where..|||wche: We see this response all the time. That is exactly the attitude that has this country in the mess its in now. The way we read the original post is that the point was that ebay was covering up activities that were contrary to the good of the community. Ofcourse there are other web sits, but the point seems be to keep ebay honest and not be driven off becuase ebay talks a lot and does little to improve the over all ebay experience.|||Why do I get the feeling that some buyers here are hunting for problems? What is the real reason for these posts? LINK !|||Think about what you are saying about "big business" for just a minute. If ALL businesses stopped doing business, selling a service or product what would happen?|||What a contrived opening post. If I was teaching honesty I don't think I would use eBay discussion boards as a tool. But, and this is a big but, if I were going to use eBay discussion boards I wouldn't overlook the problem of dishonest buyers. Your grandchildren are entitiled to a balanced truth that for each and every dishonest seller there is also a dishonest buyer. To forget this fact is to be dishonest yourself. Susan|||You have now put highlow72-10 on your blocked bidders list. Thanks for your participation.|||You guys are a riot. Seems like highlow asks a lagit question and all the people who act like clowns come out of the woodwork and pass judgment on some guy trying to get some guidence. What qualifies you to pass judgment on who is qualified to teach his gkids. The mistake highlow made was using ebay as an example. I don't buy on ebay anymore because my first buys ended up filing claims and dealingl with nuts. What does being a blocked have to do with answering this guys request for help ? Are you serious or just a misguided sole who is wrapped up in his or her own importance. Must be nice to be so perfect . If you can't offer help when asked dont indulge your ignorance. I checked out the posts on the honesty issue and related issues and it seems like this guy is concerned for his gkids as well as the ebay community as a whole. Highlow ask you pastor because you will not find help from some of the wise guys here.
